You settle at one of the blue tables, in the shade in the afternoon, and your gaze travels far—all the way to the hills that close off the horizon. It is one of those places you come to as much for the landscape as for what is on your plate.

The place is deliberately unfussy: a village atmosphere, families, walkers back from a hike, neighbours dropping by for an end-of-day drink. You feel at ease; you take your time. Provence, in short, just as we love it: slow and sincere.

The best moment: an aperitif at sunset

If you had to choose one hour to come, it would be the one when the day draws to a close. In high summer, around 9pm, the light softens and the Cèze valley glows orange. An aperitif or dinner on the terrace, facing this spectacle, is the memory visitors keep the longest. Remember to book a table on the view side: that is where the magic happens.

In July and August, the terrace opens from 4pm: warm waffles and ice-cream sundaes for an afternoon snack while the children are still in their swimsuits, a sharing board and a cool drink for the aperitif, then dinner facing the sunset. Good news: you don't need to be staying at the estate to enjoy Le Snack. It welcomes everyone, cottage guests and passing visitors alike, and a large free car park is available at the entrance. Opening hours follow the rhythm of the season:

Le Snack is in Sabran, on the Route du Tour de la Madone—about fifteen minutes from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, twenty from Uzès and forty from Avignon.
